OCS launches Virtual Deli

International facilities services provider OCS has launched its Virtual Deli at Springfield University Hospital in Tooting, South London. The service allows staff to order and pay for their meal online in advance and collect it at a convenient time.

The hospital, which was built in 1840 and is now the headquarters of South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, provides community and hospital psychiatric services to Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth. It is the first OCS client to benefit from the on-line service which offers everything from sandwiches and salads to jacket potatoes, soups, fresh fruit, confectionery and cold drinks. Virtual Deli is currently open for people to order food from 7am-2pm Monday to Friday and to collect food from 9.30-2.30pm Monday to Friday.

The service launched in early July following feedback from the client who was eager to adopt an innovative system which enables staff to pre-order food and collect it quickly during their break times. Feedback has been very positive in first few weeks of operation.

The move follows the recent installation at Springfield Hospital of a new Costa Express vending facility - a self-service coffee bar allowing staff and visitors to enjoy real coffee made from Mocha Italia coffee beans and fresh milk from a self-service machine.

Mark Nelson, catering director at OCS said: “I am extremely pleased that the Virtual Deli has proved so popular within such a short period of time and we now plan to launch a similar service at other client sites around the UK.” The service allows the OCS catering team to gain a better understanding of what people buy and when and to target customers with offers for their favourite food and drink.
