OCS helps give young cricketers a ‘Chance to Shine’

Children from schools in Surrey and London recently enjoyed a day of cricket at The Kia Oval with the support of sponsorship from international facilities services provider OCS.

OCS has supported the Surrey Cricket Foundation (SCF) for many years. The support allows SCF to offer more opportunities to their Chance to Shine schools in the local area. Set up in 2005, the national charity Chance to Shine uses the power of cricket to help young people to acquire important life-skills, values and attitudes and has helped reverse the decline in cricket in state schools.

The annual competition finals took place on 10 July at The Kia Oval with 15 primary schools participating from around the county. 140 children accompanied by parents and teachers were given the opportunity to to visit and play at the iconic stadium.

The four winning schools were Cleves, Corpus Christi, St Johns and St Phillips. All competitors, teachers and parents had a great day.

‘It’s lovely that a big company like OCS is getting involved with events like this to support the children, you’re providing opportunities that they would never normally experience!” Neil Mears, teacher, St Phillips School.

OCS provides equipment and training for teachers and coaches, as well as lunch, t-shirts, caps and medals for the young cricketers involved in the final.

Bob Taylor, CEO, OCS Group UK Ltd commented ‘It’s fantastic to see so many enthusiastic young cricketers enjoying the game at the Kia Oval. Our support for this program fits with our aim to support families in the communities in which we work and I hope that this event will help inspire the young players to continue to play and enjoy the sport.’
