OCS helps Fremlin Walk clean up at Loo of the Year

10th Dec 2013

OCS-serviced shopping centre Fremlin Walk gained top recognition when it received a platinum grade Loo of the Year 2013 Award (LOYA) at the recent presentation event*.  OCS has been providing cleaning services for the shopping centre in Maidstone since July 2011.

The annual Loo of the Year Award encourages the highest possible standards in all types of ‘away from home’ or public toilets throughout the UK and anyone can nominate - staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors -  for the public toilet ‘Roll of Honour’.

The 100 different Loo of the Year Awards inspection criteria have been developed over many years and are used for assessing male, female, accessible and babychange facilities.  All competition entries receive a grading, either bronze, silver, gold or platinum, following an unannounced visit by a LOYA inspector, and the entry is fully assessed against detailed judging criteria, including signage, decor and  maintenance, cleanliness, hygiene and customer care.

“Centre Manager Lloyd Wright of Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), providers of professional services to the Fremlin Walk centre, said:  “This is further recognition of our team’s hard work and commitment. I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise OCS as a valued partner and thank them for their continued support.”

Jane Sheard, UK Managing Director of Facilities Services at OCS, added: “Our work at Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre is not just about maintaining a clean standard; it’s about the customer experience. Our on-site team’s priority is to work closely with the centre management to achieve the clean, safe and relaxed environment which makes Fremlin Walk the ‘must visit shopping destination throughout Kent’.”

Fremlin Walk experiences a footfall in excess of 6.5 million per year and keeping the centre clean is not without its challenges. Whist the centre’s core opening hours for trading are 9 am to 6 pm, the site is not a locked centre and OCS teams work throughout the night to ensure walkways and public thoroughfares remain clean, safe and inviting.
