OCS Young Sports Person Awards Update 2010

25th Oct 2010

The quality of young athletes who applied for the OCS Young Sports Person Awards this year was outstanding making it very hard for the judges to choose the final 33 youngsters who will receive Awards.  However, following a rigorous judging process assisted by SportsAid,  the 33 youngsters have now been advised on whether they are a category winner or a runner up.

Category winners will travel to London to receive their Awards at a celebratory event on 25th November in the OCS Stand at the Brit Oval.  The eleven finalists from all over the UK will be joined by the winner of the Young Star category at the ceremony when they will find out who will be the overall winner and receive a further £8,500-worth of support over three years.

Previous OCS Young Sports Person Award winners including Beth Tweddle MBE and Louis Smith will be attending the event which will be hosted this year by Eamonn Holmes.  The winning youngsters will receive their Awards from top sports personalities including Ade Adepitan MBE, Iwan Thomas MBE, Rory Underwood MBE and Olympians Tim Brabants MBE, Giles Long MBE, Kate Howey  MBE and Bryony Shaw who give their time willingly to support the youngsters.

Chris Cracknell, chief executive of OCS said, “The OCS Young Sports Person Awards and our partnership with SportsAid strongly underpins our objective of putting something back into the communities in which we work and supporting young people through financial assistance and encouragement in their sporting activities. Our winners have gone on to achieve great things for our country and we will continue to support our sporting future as we race towards 2012
