OCS Principle Winner in Prestigious Bali Awards

At the 2009 BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) Awards on 4 December, OCS’ team scooped the prestigious Principal Award as well as winning the Interior Landscape Installation Category. The BALI Awards celebrate the industry’s commitment to maintaining and improving standards in the landscape sector and showcase high quality work. At the awards ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, top industry recognition was given to the work of OCS’ horticulture team at NAPP Pharmaceuticals in the Cambridge Science Park. OCS’ team was involved from the early stages with creating an interior planting concept to enhance the working environment and complement the client’s vision for their brand new state-of-the-art office building.

The judges gave high praise to OCS’ work at NAPP’s office in Cambridge, stating, “Innovation is always exciting and this scheme may well have interior landscapers trying harder to think outside of the box. A great scheme deserving of emulation in the right setting.” The excellent communication and relationship with the client was instrumental in creating the fresh, bright and vibrant workplace for NAPP staff and the result is unique in performing a central design role within the building and not simply an ancillary function.

The company, which has maintained interior landscapes for NAPP for several years, was able to provide expertise and advice from the early stages of the building project working alongside the facilities management and interior design teams on a strong identity for the new site. Colour and form were core to the design philosophy and these were used to delineate spaces and work areas in the very modern open-plan building with large expanses of glass. The colour palette was based on cool, warm and neutral tones: natural tones on the ground floor to create an inspirational first impression, warm colours to reflect the high activity and creative nature of the first floor and cool colours on the second floor to create calm and tranquillity. Planter design had a strong influence on creating a striking and aesthetically pleasing result along with plant displays which were colour matched to interior accent colours.
