Hard Work Pays Off at Devonport Dockyard

21st Dec 2010

OCS staff members at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth have recently completed an NVQ level 2 in Team Leading after months of hard work and studying.

In 2009, the Plymouth City College visited the site promoting courses supported by funding under the governments Train to Gain scheme. One of the team supervisors, Barry Jackson, was interested in finding out if any of the courses would benefit his team and the company. After a consultation with the college representative, it was decided that the NVQ Level 2 in Team Leading would be the most appropriate course for the team members to take.

Barry, along with Phil Hoyle, Rob Hoyle and Lee Saundercock enrolled in the programme and began the course, carrying out a combination of on the job assessments and many hours of studying at home. After 8 months of hard work, all the staff members achieved their qualifications with great plaudits from the college tutor.

Lee Roberts, Senior Project Manager congratulated the team on their accomplishments, “It was very pleasing for me that a group of OCS staff took it upon themselves to gain a nationally recognised certificate which will both benefit their future and enhance OCS’s performance. It was even more pleasing to find out that two of the members had left school with no qualifications but grafted to complete this certificate. Well done to all involved.”
