OCS Helps Launch Carbon Disclosure Project

First Public Procurement Report

Leading FM service provider OCS, which occupies a central supply chain position working with suppliers to deliver a range of sustainable solutions for customers in the market place, was pleased to be nominated by a number of clients to take part in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) first public procurement report. The CDP report provides new insights into the role government plays in using procurement decisions to deliver low carbon solutions.

OCS’ Director of CSR Michael Goodliffe welcomed the Group’s participation at the report launch saying, “The contemporary marketplace continually interrogates our environmental approach and participation in the project helped focus our improvement processes and demonstrate our commitment to reducing the impact of our activities on the environment. OCS has taken a number of initiatives to measure, reduce and report on the Group’s environmental impact and these are supplemented with environmental awareness programmes that have been enhanced to help stimulate behavioural change. The CDP metrics have been utilised to develop contract and service specific carbon footprint methodology. We have also reviewed the assessments made of our supply chain in line with the CDP framework and are looking to extend our supplier engagement programme in the new financial year.”

The Group has also received further invitations to participate in both the Public & Private sector membership forums and Michael Goodliffe, who is also Chair of the CSSA Sustainability Group has now been appointed to the Sustainable Development Steering Group of the British Quality Foundation.

OCS has been measuring carbon emissions in the UK since 2005 and, at the time of receiving the first request to participate in the CDP report had achieved registration of the Group’s ISO 14001 compliant environmental management system and was half way towards completing a company wide roll out.
