The Young Sportsperson Awards are run in partnership with SportsAid, the charity responsible for funding emerging sports talent in the UK. Over 400 SportsAid athletes represented Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympic Games.
Our congratulations go to the thirteen former Young Sportsperson Award regional finalists who competed in Rio and who won eight medals between them. Dan Wallace won Silver in the 200m freestyle relay, Louis Smith MBE won Silver in the pommel horse and Hannah Mills won Gold in the 470 sailing along with crew member Saskia Sills. Paraswimmers Alice Tai won Bronze in the S10 backstroke and Gold in the 100m medley relay while Bethany Firth won Golds in the S14 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle and Silver in the 100m breaststroke.
Sports bursaries are open to youngsters who compete in any sport which is recognised by SportsAid and all applications must be made through SportsAid.
There are three regional awards in each of the following regions:
- Scotland & Northern Ireland
- Central & North
- Wales & West
- London & South East
- Channel Islands (one finalist)
The OCS Young Sportsperson overall winner is chosen from all the regional winners.
