Midlands & National Winner – Sam Oldham

15 year old Sam began gymnastics at the age of 7. He is the British Men’s U14 Gymnastic Champion, English All Round Junior Champion and a member of the British World Class 2010 Squad.

Regional Winners

Northern Ireland - Stuart Henry - Cycling 

Stuart, 17, started cycling at 12 years old and has been competing professionally since 2007. Stuart has shown huge determination to become part of the GB Under 18 team and the Northern Ireland Talent Orientation programme as well as winning the Under 18 Irish Championships Track last year.

Scotland -Kieran Malone - Wrestling

17 year old Kieran took up wrestling at 6 years old, inspired by watching professional wrestling on television. Kieran has been 5 times Scottish Junior Champion and 6 times British Junior Champion

North East - Megan Sylvester - Diving

Megan, 14, has been diving since the age of 6. Megan visited Beijing this year as part of the 2012 British Olympic Programme and is also part of the World Class Start Programme. Winning a Gold medal at the International Diving Meet in Germany and a Silver at the Junior European Championships.

Wales - Jamie Van Hooijdonk - Badminton

17 year old Jamie began playing badminton at 9. He is ranked number 1 in Britain at U17, and is number 5 in Europe U19 singles. Jamie is the youngest ever Senior Welsh Mens Singles Champion at just 17. He is also a member of the GB Talent Programme and Team Europe.

South West - Sophie Bailey - Windsurfing

Sophie, 16, has been windsurfing since the age of 11, is currently ranked 4th in the Youth U19’s and is the number 1 British Junior Girl in her sport.

London - Jonathan May - Fencing

16 year old Jonathan took up fencing at the age of 11 after being encouraged by his school coach. Jonathan has progressed to competitive level and is currently ranked 19th in Europe for under 17s

South East - Louise Small - Middle Distance Running

16 year old Louise began running 3 years ago. Louise has already built an impressive record including being ranked second in the 1500m U17 event and coming second in the 2007 AAA’s under 20 GB Championships over 1500m

North West - Lucy Deakin - Judo

16 year old Lucy began judo when she was 7. This is her third year on the British Judo World Class Start Programme and she is currently ranked number 1 in England and Britain in her age and weight category.

James Hollis – Swimming - Disabled

14 year old James who has brittle bones took up swimming at the age of 11. James holds 10 East Region disability records in senior and junior age group, has won 3 Gold medals at the 2007 DSE National Championships and 5 Gold medals at the Colchester Open Meet in the same year. He has achieved the able-bodied East Region qualifying times in 4 events

Alexandra Herd – Tennis - Young Star

Alex took up sponge ball tennis at just 3 years old. At just 10 years old, Alex is ranked 50 in the country, has an Lawn Tennis Association ranking of 8.1 and has represented her county and Great Britain
